This comedic drama follows a hyperactive compulsive gambler, Andy, and Reuban, the calm yet imposing hitman that’s been dispatched to kill him. Confronted with the reality of his own pending mortality, Andy’s initial disbelief turns into the oddest compilation of last minute requests this cold landscape has ever seen.
Seeking out a hooker, wreaking revenge on a former boss and searching for lost childhood toys seem a petty way to meander through the last hour of one’s life, but both Andy and Reuban ultimately reveal that there is more to their lives and their quests than meets the eye. Unfolding in real time, this film is a deserving showcase for two performances that don’t shy away from the raw or the real; the most unexpected ying to an unseeing yang. Set in a desolate landscape where the only points of interest are the personalities that dwell there, Real Time is an intimate, well-paced story demonstrating that the darkness that surrounds us may serve as a beacon. |
